6 Free Defragmentation Tools

February 5, 2010category | Support

Our friends over at Smashing Apps released a list of 6 Powerful Free Disk Defragmentation Tools. These are great tools to help your system run smoothly. Fragmentation occurs when the operating system cannot or will not allocate enough contiguous space to store a complete file as a unit, but instead puts parts of it in gaps between other files. Larger files and greater numbers of files also contribute to fragmentation and consequent performance loss.

Defragmentation should be done monthly or weekly depending on your volume of disk space. We haven’t had a chance to use all of these, but have tried out Defraggler and it is great. It is made by the same company that produced CrapCleaner, a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool.
